"A murderer is less loathsome to us than a spy. The murderer may have acted on a sudden mad impulse; he may be penitent and amend; but a spy is always a spy, night and day, in bed, at table, as he walks abroad; his vileness pervades every moment of his life" - Honore de Balzacorion vestorius | balmung | ast

OOC INFORMATION.

  1. Goobie/Carrots | 21+ | AST | any pronouns are great | university student, artist, and modder.

  2. Open to all sorts of genres between comedy and slice of life to psychological horror, mystery, and violent adult themes as long as all parties/companies involved are consenting and above the age of 19. NO EXCEPTIONS. I do accept erotic roleplay with my characters, but please keep OOC separate from IC. I am not my characters, and I do not consider my characters a part of me. I'm ace, I don't want to fuck you just because my character fucks your character, and I don't want to be in any sort of online relationship. I promise.

  3. Zero patience for metagamers, OOC drama, and godmodders. If you have an issue with me or are concerned with any of the content that may occur within our roleplay, please speak to me about it as soon as you can. I am more than happy to talk it out without judgment and make arrangements to make you more comfortable. Additionally, if you have any triggers you would like me to be aware of, please tell me when you can! I want to make sure both of us are having fun in a safe, happy environment.

  1. My schedule is often chaotic and hard to predict, on top of the fact that I can often disappear for days to weeks at a time due to my hyper fixation moments. As a result, I try to avoid promising a specific amount of roleplay or dedicating myself to a long-term roleplay partner (in short, if you need constant validation, conversation, and/or attention from a roleplay partner, I'm not the person for you). However, if we're extremely compatible and you fully understand the above, then long-term roleplays and more firm ships are welcome and adored!

  2. I am completely open to being attacked, kidnapped, robbed from, and everything in-between as long as the circumstances are reasonable and realistic. With this in mind, I also expect the same courtesy from you. If there is a moment where you feel yourself getting frustrated in an IC fight for whatever reason, feel free to step away or let me know. This is to prevent IC feelings from seeping into OOC, or OOC anger slipping into IC, which I find is often one of the biggest causes of godmodding and other such acts. I do not use /random or /dice for individuals I trust unless it's for fun (i.e., I prefer story-driven combat instead of something RNG focused), but for strangers or public fights, I prefer using the fairness of dice.

  MARITAL STATUS.   Divorced.
  RACE.   Garlean (Pureblood)
OCCUPATION.   Before the fall of the Garlean empire, Orion was a senior intelligence officer who managed numerous counter-intelligence missions in the more rebellious provinces. However, now that the empire is destroyed and so too is the existing military, he's currently looking for more permanent employment while living off the slivered remnants of what he was able to collect from his estate.

FAMILY.   Ex-Wife (presumably deceased), youngest son (unknown), eldest son (unknown), parents (deceased), siblings (unknown).
EYE COLOR.   A horrifyingly pitch black. It seems to suck in all light and deny even the faintest of reflections from its surface. His right eye was taken out and replaced with an eyepatch.
HAIR.   His hair is a light grey and often kept carefully cut in a professional style.
SCARRING.   While, like any soldier, he is covered head to toe in scrapes, burns, and bullet holes, Orion is specifically known for a long, deep scar that goes horizontally across his entire face, even cutting into his ear.

PERSONALITY.   Orion is a stern perfectionist; he expresses little to friends and shows even less to strangers, rendering him quite an enigma even to his ex-wife and children. He observes people not as people but as things that run off of specific predictable patterns, and while he is a specialist in disguise and acting out these patterns, he often falls short in his actual social life, rendering him deadpan and unforgiving. In many ways, he has completely separated himself from his own emotions as a requirement for being good at what he does, learning to weaponize sympathy and good-will. However, his ex-wife has made comments that reveal instances of his genuine personality coming through, primarily in the nerdy, fantastical books he enjoys reading in secret and the board games he volunteered to play with his children while otherwise absent in their lives. She also reveals that while he is a bundle of lies and secrets, he can be bluntly honest when he wants to be -- both in terms of what he observes in others and confrontations about how he acts as a person.  BACKGROUND.   Orion's history is kept tight under lock and key. In fact, the records that did contain details of his history have more than likely been burned during the Empire's initial civil war to protect Garlean intelligence from Alliance interference. Anything that did survive disappeared once the final attacks started, rendering the city—and what remained of their records— destroyed. What he will admit is that his parents are deceased due to reasons he refuses to disclose and that his siblings may or may not be alive, though he doesn't know where they're located and supposedly can't even remember what they look like. It's also generally well known that he has two sons (one who is thirteen and another who is sixteen) and an ex-wife, though the fact that this is accessible information shows he cares little about their safety and potentially uses them as bait to draw out counter-intelligence—bait which has been surprisingly successful plenty of times in the past. Everything else that may potentially relate to his past is all rumours, gossip, and hearsay. Generally, many claimed he had suddenly "came from nowhere" in the intelligence sector and took it by storm, but those slightly closer to him would find out through sheer observation that he must've been a regular grunt soldier before-hand due to his scarring, but there is a very clear disconnect and chunks of missing information from the time he was a recruit to the time he became an intelligence officer.

  SKILLS.

  • Skilled in espionage and counter-espionage. Specialized specifically in counter-intelligence in unstable provinces.

  • Particularly skilful in disguise and identity forgery.

  • Expert in psychological operations (PSYOPS)

  • Trained in complex interrogation and "coercion" techniques.

  • Heavily educated in strategy, image analysis, political science, logistics, covert operations leadership, and geography.

  • Advanced combat training (POW training, survival, evasion, and weaponry training).

  • Strong crisis management and contingency planning skills.

PLOT HOOKS.

  1.   THE OWL.   Orion's nickname "The Owl" started off as the term "Private Hoo-Hoo" while he was a fresh recruit, mocking the way he would say "who?" whenever a fellow recruit's name was brought up. It ended up spreading around and sticking like glue to his back before it transformed into the less humiliating term "The Owl" when he was the one training new recruits. The term was coined as a result of his eyes which were uncomfortably wide and seemingly unblinking. Supposedly, he also had a way of turning his head when addressed that was exceptionally reminiscent of an owl; stiff and sharp with little shoulder movement.

  2.   RUMORS OF TRAINING DAYS.   As stated, any official notes about Orion's past and the details of his professional history have been destroyed, but there are some still around—potentially your character—who knew Orion when he was a recruit. He was rather invisible aside from being socially awkward and particular. He was skinny, pale, and kept to himself but not so much that he was bullied or directly called out for it. Teased perhaps, but he rarely held people's attention enough for blatant bullying. His career as a young soldier was also supposedly forgettable though it's also possible that his actions were simply kept quiet from common rank and file. What people do remember is that he had disappeared for quite a while from records and attendance sheets, and suddenly his existence—or the lack thereof—was noticed. He returned without an eye, guards stationed outside his infirmary room, bandaged from head to toe, and even more quiet than before. After his silent recovery, he would promptly disappear again for good.

  3.   THE RECRUIT WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.   Even as a new soldier, he was always strangely reserved and always observing others, even his drill instructors. Reports were made to higher ups that only someone within the barracks would have information on. Some say he was an informant from day one and he wasn't a new recruit at all, others say his quiet behaviour simply garnered misplaced suspicion, while a few say he was assigned to be broken down but wasn't. Those who trained with him as a youth would remember a moment — the occasional whispered warning of a rat in the barracks, a broken body in the latrine, a censored report — and realize those rumours were all about Orion.

  4.   THE NIGHTMARE OF SPIES AND DEFECTORS.   His specialization in counter-intelligence made him quite the bane of spies and defectors in the Garlean occupied provinces. While no one ever really saw him working unless he wanted to be seen, it was clear when he was or wasn't around because intelligence being brought in for rebel forces took a sharp turn. Contacts would be cut off like flies being swatted, high ranking "Garlean" soldiers would suddenly disappear from their homes, resources would be abruptly chopped in half, and information fed back to them would result in spies and assassins being silently captured or murdered the second they peeked their head out of their holes. Some groups started suspecting he was actually in their rank and file like some sort of ghost, and they would find out too late how correct they were. If you were part of any of the rebellion forces during the Garlean Empire's reign, you may have heard of him (or were warned about him).

  1.   A PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY.   Orion was infamous for his memory; he could be shown a picture of a man for half a second and be capable of picking him out in a grainy photo amongst a bustling, thick crowd. His uncanny knowledge of people — aliases, past affiliations, or events that should have been erased — makes him a walking talking government archive. Even those born after the fall of Garlemald might find that he knows something about their parents, their villages, or a family member who was once a "soldier". However, others would be hard pressed to get him to reveal anything. Afterall, he is more likely to lie, and do so in a way you would never even realize it despite the truth staring you in the face.

  2.   FOR HIRE.   After the Garlean Empire's collapse, and with it any military and intelligence infrastructure, Orion was left without a job and in many regards, a society to hide behind. The existence of Garleans who weren't low-ranking refugees or sympathetic defectors were questioned and he found himself facing far more attention than he was comfortable with — or, quite frankly, used to. The banks that housed his fortune were destroyed, and so he had only slivers of his remaining savings to fund his escape. He was able to avoid Alliance interrogation and capture, and with those funds, situate himself with a new life, now lingering in plain sight; disguised as none other than said poor, low-ranking refugees taking up manual labour jobs as a proclaimed "cripple". In secret, he's been forced to take jobs up alongside criminals; criminals who make it known they don't trust him—though then again, he doesn't trust them either. The only thing keeping them from pointing fingers is shared accountability and a mutual understanding of profit.

  3.   HE'S A REFUGEE LIKE YOU...RIGHT?   To most he's just another wounded Garlean survivor, carrying crates with a limp and broken posture; face layered in bandages hiding scars from the regime. He always eats alone, but helps others without asking for thanks. He goes to work, comes home, and never sticks his nose in business that isn't his. He's always watching though, always observant of his surroundings in ways that functions beyond just a survival mechanism. It seems trained and far too calculated, but he always lingers within the realm of deniability that others put it off. Other Garlean refugees would notice his eerie perceptiveness or catch a flash of something in him that shows a man who isn't nearly as shattered as he pretends to be.

  4.   SCARS THAT TELL A STORY.   Orion rarely discusses the stories that come from his scars, and if he does, there is no guarantee that they're truthful. However, medical professionals and even other combatants might be able to weave their own assumptions based off of simple observation. In between the old scars and the new — the bullet holes, knife marks, burns and calluses — sits an older story that is more indicative of...torture; something long, methodical, slow, and layered. A few of his nails appear to be damaged or partially missing, with the rest that remain showing signs of regrowth; some of his back teeth were removed and replaced with prosthetics, bits of his skin are scarred from the burns of electricity, and clipped bits of scarring could be found across his chest as if he were slowly pried at with wire cutters or heated blades.
